2020 Virtual Urology Learning Program
(Not valid for Accreditation)
Available until August 31, 2021
Message From The President
Dear members, faculty, sponsors and friends:
Welcome to the 2020 Puerto Rico Urological Learning Program provided by PRUA.
This is a year to be remembered, in January 7, 2020 a 6.4 magnitude earthquake was felt in the entire Island and the continuous aftershocks had everyone worried. News of a Covid 19 pandemic started with the possibility of reaching us.
When social distancing, isolation and quarantine became a reality our way of life was placed in hold. In order to fulfill our duty, we had to adapt, and created a program that would offer the same excellency of education in a way it could be reached by all.
I want to thank my Board of Directors Dr. Héctor López, Dr. Gil Nieves, Dr. Freddy Méndez and our invited Faculty for accepting the challenge and making it possible. I have to thank my wife Dr. Aurea Rivera for her support and Aixa Vélez because of her gift of turning ideas in reality. I also want to thank all of our sponsors that stepped forward in these times of changes.
Finally I wanted to share that being President of this Association for me was about maintaining this exceptional forum of continued education for our present members, but most importantly, for our future members.
I hope you enjoy and appreciate the Program.
José R. Fournier Rebollo, MD
President 2020

Needs Assessment
The Virtual Urology Learning Program 2020 presented by PRUA is one of the very limited opportunities for urologists in practice within Puerto Rico to get CME urology credits during this pandemic, for this reason, there is a clear need for a well-balanced, unbiased, educational program that will bring our local urologists up-to-date on the diagnosis and management of common urologic problems as well as the prevention and management of complications that could arise in the diagnosis and management of genito-urinary malignancies, voiding dysfunction, sexual dysfunction and stone disease. The Virtual Urology Learning Program will address these needs.
Objectives
The educational objectives for the Virtual Urology Learning Program 2020 are the following:
- Provide a framework for sound decision making in difficult cases related to voiding dysfunction, nephrolithiasis, early and advanced stage prostate cancer, bladder cancer, penile cancer and renal cancer
- Provide an update on medical management of genito-urinary malignancies
- Provide an update on the best management strategies and third line treatment of overactive bladder and female urinary incontinence.
- Update participants on recent developments in the field of prostate, kidney, penile and testicular cancer diagnosis: imaging and genetic markers.
- Update participants on novel treatments for advance renal cancer including immunotherapy.
- Present the most up-to-date data on the most effective use of immunotherapy for genitourinary malignancies.
- Review and provide an update about nephrolithiasis prevention, diagnostic, management, treatment and complications.
- Review and provide updates into how to manage a urology practice during times of crisis
